Here is my running philosophy.
1. Always keep running. Doesn't matter how slow. Just keep those feet a-movin'.
2. Don't run for time. Run til you don't feel like running anymore. Who wants to count minutes anyway? Let's get real: NOBODY. Because then all kinds of awful things happen, like trying to figure out your pace and sometimes that is just discouraging.
3. Don't run for distance. If you feel good, keep going. Don't plan a route- get lost! Take a right. And then another right. Maybe a left? Cut through a backyard! Go in a funny polygon shape when you're getting chased by the dog in that backyard. Run out of your way to go through a sprinkler. Or out of your way to avoid people throwing apples at you (true story).
Sometimes I make a playlist. Sometimes I like listening to the soundtrack of the birds and the evening news drifting out a living room window. I do what I want. The important thing is that I enjoy myself.
I love the new Blog Amanda! I too run in the summer and enjoy Iowa's scenic landscape. If possible, I would love to hear more about the apple story sometime! Looking forward to being your workout partner this summer!

The apple story is on the docket to become a human interest kind of post quite soon!
DeleteI'm sure we'll get plenty more blog-worthy material once we become running buddies!
I like this post but for myself I like knowing how far i go. It gives me a goal to reach. The track is perfect for that. And who doesnt love running in circles all day? Thats exactly what my brain does everyday anyway lol
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about it, the more I realize how much like ferrets everybody has become in the house. Just a note.
DeleteIf I know how far I have to go, I distract myself trying to figure out how far I have left! I just can't focus the way you can!
For me, I find that I prefer having a set place to run to, but I don't have to know the distance. For instance, I might set a goal to run to a school, and then after I finish I will look up how far I ran. I definitely agree though that changing paths is fun! Sometimes the track can get boring. And I prefer a workout playlist too! Helps you get lost in your run!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that! I have a few landmarks that I enjoy cruising around- Noelridge and Cedar Lake, for example- but I usually try to avoid looking at the distance until after!
DeleteI'm planning a playlist post sometime soon- we should compare notes on what we listen to. I'm sure we'd be surprised with what each of us prefers!
